The Belgian delegation to China on September 23rd hosted a seminar on the European Union e-commerce VAT reform at the China (Shenzhen) International Logistics and Supply Chain Fair, and representatives from the Wallonia Foreign Trade and Investment Agency, Flanders Investment and Trade, the Belgian Customs and Excise Administration, Alibaba Group, and other experts participated in the seminar. The seminar was one of series of activities celebrating the 50th anniversary of China-Belgium diplomatic relations.
Mr. Luc Truyens, Counsel General of Belgium in Guangzhou, thanked logistics and e-commerce companies for choosing Belgium as their gateway to the EU market. Isabelle Bedoyan, Counsellor - Customs Attaché to China introduced the Belgian Customs’ upgraded customs clearance system as an indispensable part of implementing the e-commerce VAT reform.
A representative from the Alibaba Group Globalization Office introduced the eWTP cooperation with Belgium, as well as a new service to assist merchants using Belgium as a regional hub for trade with Europe. The new service lowers administrative and cash-flow burdens on e-commerce SMEs and helps them to adapt to the VAT reform which entered into force on July 1, 2021.
